Situated in beautiful County Durham, we’re a father-daughter roasting duo with a passion for coffee and a love for the North East.
With a range of beans from around the world, we aim to showcase the diversity of flavour within the speciality coffee industry and hope to encourage people to connect to our wonderful region through our ethically sourced quality coffee. To us, coffee roasting is a very personal undertaking; it is more than simply roasting great coffee, but also about building sustainable relationships and fusing exciting flavour profiles with a celebration of heritage and community.
Our green beans are hand-roasted in small batches in our 12kg Air-Motion-Roaster to ensure optimal freshness. We are the first in the UK to roast on a 12kg AMR and are excited to be pioneering this cutting-edge technology. It’s a gentler method of roasting that benefits from a longer resting period to allow the flavours to blossom and results in an exceptionally flavoursome and clean cup of coffee.
Here at Durham Coffee, we are also committed to only roasting speciality graded coffee. Speciality Coffee is quality graded coffee that is bought and sold ethically and with fair prices on a quality level between producers, exporters, and roasters. The coffee we import is traceable, regularly assessed and producers are paid a premium for their quality over and above the market price. This helps them build more sustainable businesses with a focus on quality, sustainability, and community support.
From bean to cup, the relationships we build along the way are very important to us, and we love sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge; so please do stop by our roastery in Sacriston if you have any questions or just fancy a nosy and a fresh brew – we’re always happy to talk coffee with fellow enthusiasts!
